아기(Baby) 조지 맥도날드
Baby(아기) Where did you come from baby dear? Out of the everywhere into here. Where did you get those eyes so blue? Out of the sky as I came through. What makes the light in them sparkle and spin? Some of the starry spikes left in. Where did you get that little tear? I found it waiting when I got here. What makes your forehead so smooth and high? A soft hand stroked it as I went by. What makes your cheek like a warm white rose? I saw something better than any one knows. Whence that three-cornered smile of bliss? Three angels gave me at once a kiss. Where did you get this pearly ear? God spoke, and it came out to hear. Where did you get those arms and hands? Love made itself into bonds and bands. Feet, whence did you come, you darling things? From the same box as the cherub's wings. How did they all just come to be you? God thought about me, and so I grew. But how did you come to us, you dear? God thought about you, and so I am here. (George MacDonald) 아기 귀여운 아기야, 넌 어디에서 왔니? 우주에서 이리로 왔어요. 그처럼 푸른 눈을 어디에서 얻었지? 푸른 하늘을 지나올 때 얻었지요. 어쩌면 눈빛이 그렇게 반짝이지? 별님의 빛살이 좀 남아 있나 봐요. 그 작은 눈물 방울은 어디에서 났니? 이리로 오니 기다리고 있던 걸요. 네 이마는 어찌 그리 보드랍고 훤칠하지? 지나가는 길에 부드러운 손길이 쓰다듬어 줘서요. 네 볼은 어찌 그리 따뜻한 흰장미 같으냐? 누구도 볼 수 없는 것을 보았으니까요. 그 행복한 세모꼴 미소는 어떻게 짓게 된 거니? 세 천사가 한꺼번에 입을 맞추어 주었거든요. 이 진주 같은 귀는 어디에서 났지? 하느님 말에 따라 들으라고 생긴 거예요. 그 팔과 손은 어디에서 났고? 사랑이 변해서 붙들고 껴안는 게 되었어요. 귀여운 발아, 너희들은 어디에서 왔느냐? 체럽 천사 날개와 같은 상자에서 왔지요. 그것들이 어찌하여 다 네가 되었지? 하느님이 생각해 주셔 제가 그렇게 되었지요. 하지만 귀여운 아기야, 넌 어떻게 우리 아기가 되었니? 하느님이 생각해 주셔 아빠 엄마 아기가 되었어요. (조지 맥도널드) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes Out of the everywhere: the everywhere란 사방천지, 곧 우주, 또는 어디라고 꼭 집어 말할 수 없는 신비한 곳이라는 뜻을 함축한다. the starry spikes: 창과 같은 별의 빛살을 형용하는 말. left in: 눈 안에 남아 있다. I saw something better than any one knows: 사람들이 볼 수 있는 것보다 더 훌륭한 것을 보았다. (아기는 천상의 하느님 곁에 있었으므로) three-cornered smile: three-cornered란 말은 여기에서 애매하나 아기가 입을 활짝 벌리고 웃을 때 그 입 모양이 세모꼴이라서 그렇게 묘사한 듯하다. God spoke, and it came out to hear: 하느님이 말씀하시니까 그 말이 이루어져 소리를 들을 수 있도록 귀가 생겨났다는 뜻. Love made itself into bonds and bands: 사랑이 변하여 결속하고 묶는 것들이 되었다는 뜻. 사람이 팔과 손을 이용하여 다른 사람을 껴안는 등 애정을 표현하는 것을 나타내기 때문인 듯. |
